Worth the price for convenience
I live in a rural area, so in order to get the forecast I would have to log on to the computer or wait for the nightly news. My weather station solved this issue for me. I am easily able to view the weather for today and the next three days. I have found the forecasts to be pretty accurate. The only aspect I would call into question is the accuracy of the wind speeds, but the wind gusts seem about right. Other issues I noticed is that the unit does not appear cabable of being hung on a wall, you need to push a button to get the current outdoor forecast and the unit you put outdoors is not waterproof. I found a convenient space to put the outdoor unit where it will stay dry, but this may not be an option for everyone. However, I really appreciate the option to have weather alerts sent to the unit (free option for one year). Since we live in a rural area, there is a good chance that we would not receive severe weather warnings from the television or hear sirens from town. Overall, I love my weather station and I am surprised at how often I look at it and have already begun to rely on it.

Almost perfect
My significant other has been hounding me to “solve the weather problem.” The “weather problem” involves her having to go to a laptop or workstation in the morning to see what the high/low and current outside temperature is. I had an inside/outside digital thermometer in the master bath but that didn’t tell her what the high/low/chance of rain/etc. It wasn’t a weather forecast.
I went looking for digital weather stations. There are some that are radio controlled, and they get weather for about 60 cities throughout the US via a giant antenna in colorado that covers the whole US. Unfortunately, if you don’t live in a major city or if you live 30 miles outside a major city, you don’t get coverage with most radio receivers unless you pay a yearly charge to unlock this. units like those powered by accurweather are “radio” units.
This unit from Lacrosse is different, it works through your home network. In the box where three things:
a) the main display unit (Uses 2 C batteries and can be put anywhere in your house within 300 feet of the gateway)
b) the gateway which plugs into your network router via an included cord and also needs to be plugged into the wall.
c) the outside thermometer unit which is just a little white box that you mount ouside (uses 2 AA batteries).
INSTALLATION
1) Plug the gateway onto your home router and into the power outlet (included cables and power plug)
2) Log onto [...] and create an account and follow instructions (enter serial # for your gateway)…and push button on gateway
3) Configure your location online on [...] website (one of 60,000 locations so your city is bound to be there)
4) Put C Batteries into your display unit (and then put the unit wherever you want it within 300feet of gateway)…you have to push button on gateway
5) Put batteries into outside unit and mount it outside.
Overall installation was pretty simple.
YOU WILL NEED
-High speed internet router with ethernet cord plug
-the router has to be able to assign an IP address to the gateway device (most do this automaticall)
-2 AA batteries (for outside weather transmitter)
-2 C batteries (for main display unit)
-power plug to plug in gateway (the gateway transmitts on 915Mhz … precious nothing is there but if you have a device there, you could have interference)

great device
I had this weather station for about a year. We got at Costco for about thirty dollars. It is fairly simple to configure: just plug the transmitter to your SWITCH Residential Internet, log on the website to register and establish the city that interests you and voila. The temperature sensor distance is also useful although you have to press a button on the screen to display the outside temperature. It shows weather and Min / Max for the next 3 days for morning, afternoon, night or day. You can also set to show all 4 in sequence. They try to sell you additional services to display multiple locations. I think it would quickly end up being cheaper to buy two units so that you can display the weather on your site and your holiday home or golfing. Overall, a useful product. Note that the wifi dongle needs a power supply (included) that sucks about 4 Watts 24 / 7.
